Realism is the keynote of the Mughal school of painting. It subjects are largely drawn from incidents connected with the magnificent court life of the time. The dramatic pace of the grand campaigns and major political events of Akbar's reign were brilliantly captured by the painters.

A victory procession by the emperor and his coterie is seen here. The captured fort is to be seen in the background. On a caparisoned elephant sits the king majestically holding a flower in hand. Nobles astride elephants and horses precede and follow the emperor with spears and victory flags in hands. The naturally bulky pachyderms appear even bulkier. The horses look elegant and sleek till the neck, down below which their bodies too become heavy. The animals are decorated with ornaments and rich over cloths. The nobles wear similar kind of angarakhas and jamas, with patkas on their waist and almost identical turbans. So much so that the features also resemble. What distinguishes the emperor from the rest of the nobles are the pearl strings and the plume decorating his turban. He also wears multiple strings in his neck.

The background of undulating landscape constitutes an important aspect in the composition of this painting. The undulating hills come in various shades of greens and ochre. The sky is clear blue with attractive flights of birds. Birds can also be seen chirping on the floral bushes. The clear water pond has lotus blooming in it. The foreground has tiny colourful flowers adding to the joy of this victory procession.
