The Serene Abhaya Mudra

This exquisite brass sculpture captures the essence of the Buddha, seated in peaceful meditation. His right hand is raised in the Abhaya Mudra, the gesture of reassurance and fearlessness. This mudra, one of the most recognizable in Buddhist iconography, symbolizes protection, peace, and the dispelling of fear. Legend says that when Buddha was attacked by an enraged elephant, he calmed the animal merely by performing the Abhaya Mudra. It is a powerful symbol of the Buddha's compassion and his ability to bring serenity in the face of adversity. The left hand rests gently in his lap in the Dhyana Mudra, the gesture of meditation and inner balance. This mudra, often associated with the moment of enlightenment beneath the Bodhi tree, represents the stillness of mind necessary to achieve ultimate wisdom. The combination of these two mudras offers a compelling image of both inner peace and outward protection.

Craftsmanship and Auspicious Detail

Handcrafted in India, this sculpture reflects the rich artistic traditions of the region. The Buddha's robes are intricately detailed with auspicious symbols, each carefully etched into the brass. These symbols, drawn from Buddhist and Hindu traditions, carry profound meanings and are believed to bring good fortune and blessings to the devotee. The lotus flower, a symbol of purity and spiritual awakening, is prominent. The eight auspicious symbols, the Ashtamangala, each represent a different facet of enlightened consciousness and include the lotus flower, conch shell, endless knot, pair of golden fish, victory banner, wheel, vase, and parasol. The artisan’s attention to detail is evident in the smooth lines of the Buddha's face, the serene expression in his downcast eyes, and the intricate curls of his hair. The brass material lends a warm, golden hue to the statue, enhancing its sense of serenity and timelessness. This is not simply a decorative object but a powerful reminder of the Buddha's teachings and a source of inspiration for inner peace.

A Legacy of Enlightenment

More than just a beautiful object, this sculpture is a tangible link to the historical Buddha, Siddhartha Gautama, and his journey to enlightenment. Born a prince in ancient India, Siddhartha renounced his privileged life to seek the truth about suffering and the path to liberation. After years of rigorous practice, he achieved enlightenment under the Bodhi tree and became the Buddha, the awakened one. His teachings, based on compassion, wisdom, and the Four Noble Truths, spread throughout Asia and continue to inspire millions around the world today. Owning a statue of the Buddha is a way to connect with this legacy of enlightenment and to cultivate a sense of peace and mindfulness in one's own life.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
