This Pooja Kalasam is also called a Temple Kalasam or Gopuram Kalasam since it is positioned on the temple's roof. It is a stacking of designed Kalasams or holy pitchers to make a full shape that is placed on top of temples. This Kalasam is composed of gold-plated brass. Each Kalasam is filled with rice, salt, ragi, millet, corn, maize, and sesame seeds separately. Every 12 years, the grains are refreshed. It is believed that if there is a calamity and all the grains are lost, the stored grains in these Kalasams can be used to regenerate the lost crop. A Temple Kalasam is also important since it is supposed to repel negative energy and serve as a guardian.

An Emblem of Auspiciousness and Divine Presence

This exquisite brass Kalasam, meticulously crafted and adorned with a radiant gold plating, stands as a powerful symbol of prosperity, abundance, and divine blessings. More than just an object, it is a vessel imbued with deep cultural and spiritual significance, destined to grace sacred spaces and elevate your devotional practices. Its commanding presence, amplified by its substantial size, makes it a centerpiece that commands reverence and contemplation. The Kalasam, also known as a Purnakumbha, holds a hallowed place in Hindu rituals and traditions. Ancient Vedic texts describe it as a symbol of the universe, representing the primordial waters from which creation emerged. It is often filled with water, adorned with mango leaves, and crowned with a coconut, symbolizing the five elements: earth (the vessel itself), water, fire (represented by the lamp often placed atop), air, and ether (the space it occupies). Invoking the Kalasam is a way to invite auspiciousness and a spirit of fullness into any endeavor, ceremony, or household. It is commonly used in housewarmings, weddings, festivals, and during the installation of deities, ensuring a harmonious and prosperous beginning.

Craftsmanship and Symbolism in Every Detail

The graceful curves and layered embellishments of this Kalasam speak volumes about the artisan's skill and dedication. The lustrous gold plating enhances its inherent beauty, reflecting light and drawing the eye, much like the divine radiance it seeks to embody. Each ridge and swell in its design evokes a sense of abundance, reminiscent of the overflowing bounty sought in prayers and offerings. The pointed finial at the apex is a classic representation of the cosmic mountain or the pinnacle of spiritual attainment, guiding the viewer's gaze upwards towards the heavens. The intricate detailing, though subtle, adds depth and visual interest, making this Kalasam a work of art that transcends its functional purpose. Its durable brass construction ensures it will be a cherished heirloom, passing down its blessings and beauty through generations.

A Focal Point for Sacred Spaces

Whether placed in a home altar, a temple, or a dedicated puja room, this Kalasam serves as a potent focal point for prayer and meditation. Its mere presence can transform a space into a sanctuary, inviting a sense of peace and spiritual connection. As you perform your daily rituals or celebrate significant occasions, let the gleaming surface of this Kalasam serve as a mirror, reflecting your devotion and aspirations. It is an invitation to connect with the divine, to invite blessings of health, wealth, and happiness into your life, and to uphold the rich tapestry of cultural heritage that it so beautifully represents. This Kalasam is not just an acquisition; it is an investment in sacredness and a tangible connection to the timeless traditions that have guided countless souls towards enlightenment and fulfillment.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
