A Beacon of Healing and Compassion

This exquisite brass sculpture depicts the Medicine Buddha, Bhaisajyaguru, a revered figure in Mahayana Buddhism. His serene countenance and calm posture embody the tranquility and wisdom associated with enlightenment. The intricate details of his robes, adorned with delicate patterns and accented with rich gold highlights, speak to the masterful craftsmanship of Indian artisans. The verdigris patina, a testament to the aged brass, lends a sense of timelessness and spiritual depth to this sacred artwork. The Medicine Buddha is an embodiment of healing, both physical and spiritual. In Buddhist lore, he is said to possess a crystal-clear mind and the ability to banish suffering from the world. It is believed that contemplating his image, reciting his mantra, or invoking his name can alleviate illness, reduce mental anguish, and overcome the darkness of ignorance. His left hand rests in his lap, holding an alms bowl filled with the nectar of immortality, symbolizing his boundless compassion and his ability to grant profound healing. His right hand, extended downwards with palm facing outwards, is in the gesture of *varada mudra*, bestowing blessings and granting wishes. ––––––––––

The Divine Physician in Buddhist Tradition

Bhaisajyaguru, often referred to as the King of Lapis Lazuli Radiance, is one of the principal Buddhas of healing in Tibetan Buddhism. According to the *Medicine Buddha Sutra*, he made twelve great vows to deliver all sentient beings from suffering. These vows encompass a wide range of afflictions, including illness, poverty, and the lack of spiritual understanding. Each vow represents a facet of his healing power, aiming to guide beings towards liberation and well-being. His earthly realm, known as the Pure Land of Vaiduryanirbhāsā, is described as a place of immense beauty and perfect health, where beings are free from all ailments and suffering. The worship of the Medicine Buddha is particularly significant during times of collective hardship and individual distress. His presence is a source of hope and comfort, reminding devotees of the potential for healing and the ultimate triumph of light over darkness. This meticulously handcrafted sculpture serves not only as a beautiful decorative piece but also as a powerful focal point for meditation and prayer, inviting the benevolent energy of the Medicine Buddha into your home or sacred space. Its substantial presence and the quality of its casting make it a truly heirloom-worthy treasure.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
