The Bodhisattva of Compassion

Seated in the lotus position upon an intricately sculpted lotus throne, this statue represents White Tara, a beloved deity revered in Tibetan Buddhism. Her serene countenance, framed by an elaborate crown, exudes a sense of peace and tranquility. White Tara is known as the embodiment of compassion, long life, healing, and serenity. She is often depicted with seven eyes - one in the forehead and one on each palm and foot – symbolizing her ability to perceive suffering in all realms and her readiness to offer swift aid. Tara, meaning "star," is believed to have originated from the tears of Avalokiteśvara, the bodhisattva of compassion, as he wept over the suffering of the world. From these tears, a lotus blossomed, and from the lotus emerged Tara. Her white form symbolizes purity, truth, and her unwavering dedication to alleviating suffering.

Crafted with Devotion

This statue is meticulously handcrafted in Nepal using traditional techniques. The copper form is painstakingly created by skilled artisans, with each detail carefully considered to capture the essence of White Tara’s grace. The copper is then plated with gold, lending the statue a radiant glow that enhances its spiritual presence. The careful application of gold highlights the intricate detailing of her garments, jewelry, and the lotus blossoms that adorn her shoulders. The statue is adorned with semi-precious stones, adding a touch of vibrancy and further enhancing its sacred nature. These gems, carefully placed, symbolize the different aspects of enlightenment and her divine qualities.

The Gesture of Blessing

White Tara is depicted in the gesture of bestowing blessings, known as the Varada Mudra. Her right hand extends downwards, palm facing outward, signifying her willingness to grant boons, blessings, and protection to all who seek her guidance. This gesture is a powerful symbol of her accessibility and her commitment to helping those in need. The lotus flowers held near her shoulders further symbolize purity, enlightenment, and spiritual awakening. This handmade statue serves as a beautiful reminder of the power of compassion, serenity, and the potential for enlightenment within us all. Display it in your home, meditation space, or personal sanctuary as a source of inspiration, peace, and a connection to the rich spiritual heritage of Nepal and Tibetan Buddhism.
