15'' Hindu God Rudra Shiva On Throne | Brass

An abstract, almost tribal visual rendition of Lord Rudra. Rudra is another name for Shiva. The murti that you see on this page depicts the Lord with five additional faces sculpted across His naked anatomy: two across the chest, one superimposed on the loins, another couple on each mid-limb.

The fact that it is Rudra is clear from the presence of numerous snakes in the iconography. One with three hoods bares its fangs above the turban-like crown. Another pair, each with two hoods, rises behind either shoulder. The scales on their underbellies count amongst the minimal detail introduced into the sculpture.

The pedestal upon which stands Rudra is of distinctly tribal origin. It is ornately decorated with engravings on the brass, and resembles a makeshift chariot for devotees to carry Him around.

Embodiment of Cosmic Power: The Rudra Shiva Throne

This magnificent brass statue captures the multifaceted and awe-inspiring form of Lord Shiva as Rudra, seated majestically upon a throne. The deity is depicted with a multiplicity of faces, a powerful symbol of his omnipresence and his ability to perceive all aspects of existence simultaneously. Each face, rendered with meticulous detail, speaks to the divine wisdom and immense power that Shiva, the destroyer and transformer, embodies. The serene yet potent expression on each countenance invites contemplation on the cyclical nature of creation, preservation, and destruction that governs the universe. The crowning glory of this remarkable sculpture is the elaborate headdress, adorned with serpents. In Hindu mythology, serpents are deeply intertwined with Shiva. The cobra, specifically, represents his control over primal energies, his connection to the underworld, and his protective nature. The coiled cobra at his crown is often associated with Kundalini energy, the dormant spiritual power within all beings, which Shiva, as the Yogi Supreme, has mastered. The multiple serpents fanning out further accentuate his divine and formidable presence, a visual testament to his dominion over the cosmic forces.

A Throne of Divine Authority

Shiva's posture on the throne signifies his supreme authority and his role as the cosmic ruler. The throne itself is a work of art, supported by powerful, stylized lion figures, which are often associated with royalty, strength, and unwavering courage. These creatures lend an aura of regality and stability to the divine seat, underscoring Shiva's position as the ultimate sovereign of the universe. The intricate carvings and embellishments on the throne reflect the richness and complexity of the divine realm, a fitting pedestal for the lord of all beings. This statue is more than just an object of beauty; it is a conduit to the profound spiritual essence of Lord Shiva. As Rudra, he represents the fierce and untamed aspect of the divine, the force that brings about necessary destruction to pave the way for new creation. He is the embodiment of paradox, both the destroyer and the protector, the ascetic and the householder, the fierce and the compassionate. To gaze upon this form is to connect with the fundamental energies of existence, to acknowledge the power of transformation, and to seek blessings for overcoming obstacles and achieving spiritual liberation. Crafted from lustrous brass, this statue radiates a timeless glow, an eternal testament to the enduring power and mystique of Lord Shiva.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
