The Embodiment of Healing and Compassion

This exquisite brass statue depicts the Medicine Buddha, also known as Bhaisajyaguru, a celestial Buddha revered in Mahayana Buddhism. The image is a testament to the rich artistic heritage of India, meticulously handcrafted by skilled artisans. The Buddha is seated in the meditative posture of lotus, his serene countenance radiating peace and tranquility. His eyes are gently closed, suggesting deep contemplation and inner focus. His ushnisha, the cranial protuberance symbolizing wisdom, is elaborately sculpted, topped with a small finial.

Symbols of His Divine Nature

The Medicine Buddha is adorned with regal robes, intricately detailed with gold inlay. A band of ornate detailing encircles his chest, while his shoulders are draped with a celestial sash, further embellished with leaf motifs. In his left hand, resting in his lap, he holds a begging bowl, a symbol of his renunciation and detachment from worldly desires. Within the bowl, he holds a sprig of the Arura herb, famously known for its medicinal properties. In his raised right hand, he holds a stem bearing the mythical Myrobalan fruit, another potent symbol of healing. To his left, a magnificent lotus flower blooms, representing purity, enlightenment, and the blossoming of spiritual awakening. The detailed gold work on the base and along the edges of his robes adds a touch of divine splendor, reflecting his enlightened status.

The Physician of the Soul

In Buddhist lore, the Medicine Buddha is revered as the master physician, capable of dispelling physical and mental suffering. It is believed that meditating on him and reciting his mantra can alleviate pain, cure diseases, and purify negative karma. Legends speak of the Medicine Buddha making twelve great vows, all aimed at healing all beings from suffering, guiding them to enlightenment, and ensuring the flourishing of the Dharma. He is often invoked for protection against illness, for recovery from sickness, and for the general well-being of oneself and others. His presence is considered a potent source of blessings, bringing forth health, longevity, and spiritual growth. This magnificent rendition, standing at an impressive height, serves as a powerful focal point for prayer and meditation, inviting the healing energies of the Medicine Buddha into any space.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
