The Celestial Healer

This striking representation embodies the essence of the Medicine Buddha, a revered figure in Tibetan Buddhism, whose blessings are sought for healing, well-being, and the alleviation of suffering. Seated in the lotus position, a posture of meditative stability, the figure radiates serenity and compassion. The smooth, silvered brass conveys a sense of purity and transcendence. The right hand rests in the gesture of supreme generosity, while the left hand holds a bowl filled with medicinal nectar – an emblem of his healing powers. The bowl is not merely a vessel but a symbol of transformation, representing the potential to transmute sickness and negativity into health and harmony. A single plant stem gracefully extends from the left side, flowering near the left shoulder of the statue.

Craftsmanship and Symbolism

The statue features intricate inlay work, with carefully placed colored stones that adorn the robe and the base. These stones add depth and texture, enhancing the visual appeal while also holding symbolic meaning. The turquoise hues of the upper robe are said to promote peace and tranquility, while the red color covering the lower body stands for power, energy and fervor. The elaborate details, from the tightly curled hair representing wisdom to the serene expression on the face, contribute to the overall sense of sacredness and beauty. The elongated earlobes, a traditional sign of royalty and spiritual attainment, remind us of the Buddha's renunciation of worldly pleasures in pursuit of enlightenment. The ushnisha, the cranial protuberance at the top of the head, represents heightened wisdom and understanding. The urna, the small dot between the eyebrows, symbolizes the third eye, a source of inner vision and insight.

The Healing Vow

The Medicine Buddha, also known as Bhaisajyaguru, is one of the most important figures in the Mahayana Buddhist tradition. He is revered as the embodiment of healing and compassion. According to Buddhist scriptures, the Medicine Buddha made twelve great vows upon attaining enlightenment, promising to heal all beings of physical and mental suffering. Devotees often invoke the Medicine Buddha through mantras and visualizations, seeking his blessings for health, longevity, and spiritual well-being. It is believed that even the simple act of contemplating the Medicine Buddha's image can bring about healing and protection from negative energies. This statue serves as a potent reminder of our innate capacity for healing and the transformative power of compassion. Placing it in your home or meditation space can serve as a continuous source of inspiration and well-being.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
