Lord Murugan, the most handsome of the Hindu deva pantheon. On a perfectly shaped pedestal He stands, designed to accommodate both the Lord and His gorgeous vahana, the peacock. Note how the bird cranes its long, graceful neck in the direction of its Lord and Master.

Betwixt Mururagn and peacock is a snake with its hood raised. Its presence is indicative of the parentage of Murugan (He is the son of Shiva-Parvati). Clad in a dhoti of gold and crimson, bedecked in a world of gold ornaments, there is little in terms of attire and adornment that shines brighter than the wisdom in His eyes.

The luxuriant plumage of the peacock rises high above the head of Murugan. As it flourishes behind the standing figure, it forms a natural aureole. Ringlets resembling the colour gold punctuate the blue-green plumage.

Embodiment of Divine Valor

This exquisite brass sculpture captures the very essence of Lord Murugan, the Tamil god of war, love, and youth, renowned for his courage and divine might. Standing proudly, Lord Murugan is depicted in his iconic form, radiating an aura of power and grace. His multiple arms are intricately rendered, each holding symbolic attributes that narrate tales of his epic battles and spiritual prowess. The gentle yet firm expression on his face conveys his compassionate nature and his unwavering commitment to protecting righteousness.

Symbolism and Mythology

The presence of the peacock, Lord Murugan's vahana (mount), beside him further enhances the significance of this masterpiece. The peacock, with its vibrant plumage and majestic stance, represents beauty, pride, and the vanquishing of evil. In various legends, the peacock is described as helping Murugan defeat the demon Surapadman, its piercing cry a harbinger of victory. The coiled serpent at the base adds another layer of symbolism, often associated with primal energy and the power of the divine. The elaborate arch behind Lord Murugan, with its swirling patterns, evokes the celestial aura that surrounds him, a testament to his divine origin as the son of Shiva and Parvati. The spear, or Vel, which he wields, is a potent weapon, representing knowledge and the destruction of ignorance.

Artistic Craftsmanship

Crafted from high-quality brass, this statue showcases the pinnacle of traditional Indian artistry. The detailed engraving and the multi-colored patina applied to the brass bring the divine figure to life, highlighting the rich textures and the subtle nuances of Lord Murugan's divine form. The vibrant hues accentuating the gold of the brass create a visually stunning piece that commands attention and admiration. Each element, from the delicate crown adorning his head to the intricate designs on his garments, speaks of the artisan's dedication and skill passed down through generations. This sculpture is not merely an object of worship but a testament to the enduring legacy of Indian artistic heritage.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
