The Embodiment of the Second Buddha

This magnificent brass statue depicts Guru Rinpoche, also known as Padmasambhava, the Lotus-Born. Revered as the "Second Buddha" in Tibetan Buddhism, Guru Rinpoche is credited with bringing Buddhism to Tibet in the 8th century. Legend states he was born miraculously from a lotus flower in the Dhanakosha lake in Oddiyana, a mythical kingdom. His arrival in Tibet was prophesied, and he played a pivotal role in subduing local demons and spirits who resisted the introduction of Buddhist teachings, transforming them into protectors of the Dharma.

Masterful Craftsmanship and Symbolism

Rendered in lustrous brass, this substantial sculpture showcases the artistic mastery of Indian artisans. The statue is seated in a meditative posture, exuding an aura of profound wisdom and serenity. Guru Rinpoche is adorned with intricate royal regalia, symbolizing his enlightened status and his role as a sovereign master. His serene countenance, with downcast eyes and a gentle smile, invites contemplation and peace. In his left hand, he holds a skull-cup, a potent symbol of the impermanence of life and the vanquishing of ego. His right hand is raised in the *vitarka mudra*, the gesture of teaching and debate, signifying the dissemination of wisdom and the overcoming of doubt. He holds a *vajra* (thunderbolt scepter) and a *khatvanga* (trident staff), which are powerful emblems of his spiritual authority and ability to cut through ignorance and delusion. The detailed ornamentation, from the elaborate headdress to the cascading robes, speaks to the richness of Tibetan Buddhist iconography and the dedication involved in its creation. Each element is meticulously crafted, reflecting a deep understanding of the spiritual significance behind the form.

A Guardian of Wisdom and Compassion

The presence of Guru Rinpoche is believed to bestow blessings of protection, wisdom, and spiritual insight. He is invoked to overcome obstacles, purify negative karma, and foster enlightenment. This impressive statue, with its imposing size, is designed to be a focal point in any sacred space, acting as a constant reminder of the enlightened path and the profound teachings of Tibetan Buddhism. Its handmade nature ensures that each piece possesses a unique character, imbued with the spirit of devotion and the rich cultural heritage from which it originates. The warm, golden sheen of the brass, coupled with the intricate details, creates a truly captivating piece that resonates with spiritual energy and artistic brilliance. This is more than just an object of art; it is a conduit for devotion and a testament to the enduring legacy of a revered spiritual master.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
