This brass lamp is an inspirational ritual object that takes the traditional Agal lamps or leaf-shaped earthen lamps on a trip of creative experimentation. The leaf-shaped oil basin is broad and consists of a stem of brass with a peacock motif atop. The light has three stands and a crown of coiled vines inspired by Hoysala art. There is an intelligent use of brown and brass colors to bring drama. The bells attached to the crown also bring the auspiciousness of the sacred sound that travels the universe.

A Symbol of Auspiciousness and Divine Radiance

This exquisite brass lamp, handcrafted in India, is more than just a source of light; it is a testament to artisanal skill and a vessel imbued with rich cultural and mythological significance. The majestic peacock, a creature revered across India, forms the central motif, its form intricately sculpted with a captivating aura of regality and grace. In Hindu mythology, the peacock is often associated with Lord Kartikeya, the god of war, and also with Goddess Saraswati, the deity of knowledge and arts. Its vibrant plumage and proud bearing symbolize beauty, prosperity, and auspiciousness, making it a fitting emblem for a divine offering.

The Artistry of Traditional Craftsmanship

Each lamp is meticulously handcrafted by skilled artisans, carrying forward generations of tradition and expertise. The warm, golden hue of the brass is enhanced by the detailed carvings that adorn the peacock's crest and flowing tail feathers. The intricate patterns, reminiscent of ancient motifs, add a layer of depth and visual interest, showcasing the dedication and precision of the craftspeople. The inclusion of delicate brass bells, suspended on either side, further enhances the lamp's aesthetic appeal. These bells, when gently moved, produce a melodious chime, invoking a sense of peace and serenity, often associated with sacred spaces and rituals.

Illuminating Homes and Sacred Spaces

This lamp serves as a beautiful and functional piece for any home. It can be used to hold a traditional oil wick, casting a warm, flickering glow that is both comforting and spiritual. Whether placed in a puja room for daily prayers, adorning a living space as a decorative accent, or used during festivals and special occasions, this peacock lamp brings an element of divine elegance and tradition. The act of lighting a lamp, known as "Diya," is a deeply symbolic ritual in India, representing the triumph of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and good over evil. This lamp embodies that spirit, offering not just illumination but also a connection to ancient customs and beliefs. Its presence can transform an ordinary space into one filled with warmth, beauty, and positive energy.

How to keep a Brass statue well-maintained?

Brass statues are known and appreciated for their exquisite beauty and luster. The brilliant bright gold appearance of Brass makes it appropriate for casting aesthetic statues and sculptures. Brass is a metal alloy composed mainly of copper and zinc. This chemical composition makes brass a highly durable and corrosion-resistant material. Due to these properties, Brass statues and sculptures can be kept both indoors as well as outdoors. They also last for many decades without losing all their natural shine.

Brass statues can withstand even harsh weather conditions very well due to their corrosion-resistance properties. However, maintaining the luster and natural beauty of brass statues is essential if you want to prolong their life and appearance.

  • The best and simplest way to maintain a brass statue is to clean it at least twice a week using a soft cloth or cotton rag. This will prevent dust from accumulating on the surface. Dusting is especially important for outdoor statues since it is prone to dust accumulation much more than indoors.

  • To give a natural shine and luster to the statue, you may apply coconut or olive oil using cotton on every portion. You can use a toothbrush to get to the small crevices but do not be too harsh. This will make the brass statue appear fresh and new with a polished look.

  • In case you have a colored brass statue, you may apply mustard oil using a soft brush or clean cloth on the brass portion while for the colored portion of the statue, you may use coconut oil with a cotton cloth.

Brass idols of Hindu Gods and Goddesses are especially known for their intricate and detailed work of art. Nepalese sculptures are famous for small brass idols portraying Buddhist deities. These sculptures are beautified with gold gilding and inlay of precious or semi-precious stones. Religious brass statues can be kept at home altars. You can keep a decorative brass statue in your garden or roof to embellish the area and fill it with divinity.
