This finely crafted brass sculpture captures the essence of Shiva, one of the principal deities of Hinduism. Shiva, often referred to as the Destroyer, is also revered as the Transformer, the Auspicious One, and the Lord of Dance (Nataraja). He represents both destruction and creation, embodying the cyclical nature of the universe. This statue presents Shiva in a serene posture, radiating compassion and blessing. Its size makes it an ideal piece for personal altars, meditation spaces, or as a meaningful addition to any collection of spiritual art.

Symbolism Embodied

The sculpture is rich with symbolic details. Notice the serene expression on Shiva's face, reflecting inner peace and wisdom. In his hand, he holds a trident, or trishula, symbol of his dominion over the three realms: the physical, mental, and spiritual. The trident also signifies his control over the three gunas (qualities): sattva (goodness, harmony), rajas (passion, activity), and tamas (darkness, inertia). Shiva's other hand is raised in Abhaya Mudra, the gesture of fearlessness and protection, offering reassurance to devotees. A small vessel, possibly a kamandalu, rests near Shiva. The Legend of Shiva

Shiva is a complex deity, embodying seemingly contradictory qualities. He is both a fierce warrior and a benevolent protector. He is known for his austere lifestyle, dwelling in remote mountains, yet he is also a loving husband to Parvati and a devoted father to Ganesha and Kartikeya. Stories of Shiva abound in Hindu mythology. One popular legend recounts how Shiva drank the poison Halahala, which emerged during the churning of the cosmic ocean. By swallowing the poison, Shiva saved the universe from destruction, but the poison burned his throat, turning it blue. This is why Shiva is often depicted with a blue throat, earning him the name "Neelkanth," meaning "blue-throated one."
