An incarnation of goddess Parvati and wife of Lord Shiva, Annapurna Mata is the possessor and giver of food. She got this name as she herself used to serve anna (food) to Lord Shiva. It is believed that when food is cooked, goddess Annapurna blesses it and converts it to amrita (delicious and healthy).
Here she sits cross-legged on a multilayered unique lotus shaped plinth with the two hands carrying her implements- a vessel full of delicious porridge in the left and a golden ladle in the right. This cosmic deity is depicted in moon like round face and the sun shaped haloed crown mesmerizingly carved reminds us of the beautiful South Indian temple structures.
Adorned in perfectly placed golden jewels that rest on her chest and garbed in gracefully striped ankle length dhoti, this beautiful young woman nourishes not only the physical body but also the soul in the form of enlightenment and gives energy to attain knowledge and wisdom.
