A Canvas of Kolkata's Craftsmanship

Step into a world of refined elegance with this exquisite Tussar silk sari, a testament to the rich artistic heritage of Kolkata. The base fabric, a soft, natural bleached sand hue, provides a perfect canvas for the intricate and vibrant hand-embroidery that adorns it. This sari is more than just an garment; it's a wearable piece of art, carrying stories woven thread by thread.

The Art of Kantha

The defining feature of this sari is its stunning Kantha embroidery. Kantha is a traditional embroidery style originating from Eastern India, characterized by its running stitch that forms intricate patterns and motifs. Here, skilled artisans have meticulously brought floral designs to life with delicate stitches in vibrant orange and stark black. The motifs are thoughtfully placed, creating a beautiful interplay of color and texture across the expanse of the sari. You'll find delicate floral blooms and geometric patterns that are characteristic of the Kantha tradition, each stitch a testament to the dedication and skill of the craftsperson. The embroidery is not merely decorative; it’s an integral part of the sari's narrative, transforming the silken drape into a tapestry of cultural expression.

Luxurious Tussar Silk

Crafted from premium Tussar silk, this sari offers a luxurious drape and a soft, lustrous feel against the skin. Tussar silk, also known as tussah or tasar, is a wild silk produced from a variety of silkworms indigenous to India. It is renowned for its natural golden sheen, slightly coarser texture compared to mulberry silk, and its earthy, rustic appeal. This unique texture lends a sophisticated character to the sari, making it stand out from more common silks. The bleached sand base complements the natural sheen of the Tussar, creating a harmonious and elegant look. The silk ensures that the sari falls beautifully, allowing the intricate embroidery to be showcased to its full potential.

A Piece of Timeless Elegance

This sari is designed for the discerning individual who appreciates true craftsmanship and timeless style. It’s perfect for special occasions, from festive celebrations and weddings to formal gatherings and cultural events. The classic combination of the subtle base color and the striking orange and black embroidery makes it versatile and enduring. Drape yourself in this masterpiece and experience the fusion of comfort, luxury, and artisanal excellence. Embrace the beauty of hand-crafted tradition and make a statement that is both sophisticated and culturally rich.

How are Paithani sarees made?

The art of making Paithani silk sarees originated in the Paithan town in the state of Maharashtra, India. Varieties of designs and patterns are available in these sarees, however, the characteristic features are an oblique square design on the border and plain or spotted designs in the main body. Paithani sarees either come in single colors or Kaleidoscopic colors. They are made of silk and zari. The tradition of making Paithani sarees is many centuries old and this art is continued by skilled craftsmen. The most commonly found motifs found in these sarees are lotus, peacock, flowering vines, swan, parrot, geometrical patterns, etc. Paithani sarees are known for their unique weaving technique. The process of crafting these sarees requires great skills because it is all done by hand. Let us look at the various steps involved in the process mentioned below:

1.Raw Silk threads are dyed

The main raw material used for making a Paithani saree is Mulberry silk which is brought from Bangalore. The silk threads are dipped in hot salt water for about 15 minutes. They are then transferred to cold water using a long rod to remove the excess of impurities. Once they have cleaned, a dye bath is prepared as per the requirement of the color(s). The threads are then again washed 2-3 times to make them more lustrous.

2. Threads are loaded to the loom

Once the silk threads are dyed, they are transferred to the reels to separate each thread. Next, each thread is loaded to a simple pit or throw shuttle frame loom.

3. Weaving is carried out

Paithani silk sarees are woven with the Tapestry technique in which the weft yarn of small lengths is returned being interlaced or interlocked with the threads of different weft colors as per the required designs. This is the most time-consuming step and is done very carefully. It usually takes around 1.5 years to complete weaving.
