Sheer-Bliss Pure Silk Sari from Bengal with Kantha Hand-Embroidered Flowers and Heavy Pallu

$295
A one-of-a-kind-saree from the traditional handlooms of Bengal. A region known for its homegrown variety of raw, rough-hewn silk namely tussar, Bengal is known for the sheer diversity of sarees, in terms of fabric and embroidery, churned out by its looms. The tussar silk saree that you see on this page is a characteristic number. It is the colour of pale, crushed ivory that unmistakably belongs to tussar. The same is superimposed with a world of colour-blocked embroidery that leaves bare only the mid-lengths of the pleats and covers the entire field of the saree as well as the endpiece.

Executed purely by hand, the style of embroidery is locally called kantha. It is a form of running stitch used for quilting and, in this number, it makes for an exquisitely layered finish. Zoom in on the simplistic leaf and flower motifs in natural colour against a palette of orange, gold, greens, and pale blues. An unusual border which is a composite of narrow, multi-coloured panels. Teamed with minimalistic gold pieces, this is a great saree to wear to ethnic parties and day rituals of Indian weddings.
