Pure Pashmina Kalamkari Multicolored Shawl

$2250

The art of Pashmina has been around for centuries and still continues to leave people spellbound. Hailing from the high altitudes of Ladakh and Kashmir, Pashmina is a story of discovering nature’s rarity and transforming it into something magical.

Pashmina wool is obtained from the Changra goats in Ladakh. After being cleaned, the wool is spun into yarn in traditional looms and then finally made into fabric. Magic is woven into this fabric through various types of embroideries and painting techniques and one such type is Kalamkari which is exactly what we see on this piece made from pure Pashmina wool.

Dating back to around 3000 BC, Kalamkari involves painting designs on a fabric with a pen and natural dyes. Using the same technique, a multicolored pattern is created on this shawl using subdued hues of beige, brown, mauve, pale blue, peach etc on a black base. The detailed design features floral motifs, animal and human figures and covers the fabric completely making the base barely visible.

The fine detailing is an example of the focus and dedication of the artisans who are behind this magnificent piece of work. Handpicked from the looms of Kashmir, this authentic Pashmina shawl is a must have for those who are drawn towards the rich culture and heritage of India.
