Hundreds of years ago, Pashmina wool was discovered during the reign of the Mughals and to this date, it remains the most desired fabric in the world. It’s velvety smooth finish and luxurious coziness continue to win the hearts of many. Pashmina’s odyssey begins with the combing out of the fleece of the Changra goat by Changhthangi herders in Ladakh. From there, this fine quality wool comes to the looms of Kashmir where artisans work their magic on it. A variety of embroidery techniques are used by supremely skilled karigars to bring Pashmina products to life. One of these exquisite techniques is the Kani weaving.
Dating back to 3000 BC, Kani weaving hails from Kanihama. In this artform, small sticks or bobbins are used to create striking patterns on the Pashmina fabric.
We see magic of a similar kind woven on this piece. Beautiful floral patterns have been created throughout the shawl on a teal-blue base. The weaving on the shawl shows the dexterity and patience of the artisans who have put in hours of work to create this masterpiece. The rich foundation color gives a very royal feel to this shawl crafted from pure Pashmina wool. Apart from the teal-blue, pink and green can also be seen adding vibrance to the piece. The tassels on both ends of the shawl lend an element of fun.
The comfort and warmth this piece offer, makes it your ideal winter companion.
