Health remedies are a dime a dozen, each one contradicting another. As an old Chinese proverb goes, 'It is easy to get a thousand prescriptions but hard to get one single remedy.' How does one negotiate that tricky terrain? This book has all the answers. In the patented, no-nonsense style of this series, Ashwin Sanghi and Dr Mukesh Batra bring together scientifically sound advice in a non-judgemental course-correction guide.
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Reading this book is that step.
He is a regular contributor to the Op-Ed pages of the Times of India. Ashwin has been included by Forbes India in their Celebrity 100 and by the New Indian Express in their Culture Power List. He is a winner of the Crossword Popular Choice Award 2012, Atta Galatta Popular Choice Award 2018, WBR Iconic Achievers Award 2018, the Lit-O-Fest Literature Legend Award 2018, the Kalinga Popular Choice Award 2021 and the Deendayal Upadhyaya Recognition 2023. He was educated at Cathedral and John Connon School, Mumbai, and St Xavier's College, Mumbai. He holds a Master's from Yale University, USA, and a D. Litt. (Honoris Causa) from JECRC University, Rajasthan. Ashwin lives in Mumbai with his wife, Anushika, and his son, Raghuvir.
Dr Mukesh Batra, homeopath of international repute, is the founder-chairman of Dr Batra's™ Group, the world's first and largest homeopathy corporate. In a career spanning four decades, Dr Batra has treated over a million patients, including eminent political leaders, presidents and prime ministers, prominent film personalities and industrialists. He has been honoured with several fellowships and over fifty national and international awards, including the Padma Shri, one of India's highest civilian honours by the President of India. Dr Batra is the first Asian homeopath to be awarded honorary fellowships by both the British and American homeopathic associations. A film based on his work is course material for post graduate students of homeopathy worldwide. He has published several research papers in national and international professional and scientific journals. Dr Batra has popularised homeopathy through his writing in newspapers, magazines and books.
His book, Everyman's Guide to Homeopathy, was a national bestseller and has been published in multiple languages in three editions. His other book, Healing with Homeopathy is already in its third edition. He also extends homeopathic care to animal welfare shelters, orphanges and old-age homes. His own personal interests include photography and singing, and have been turned into exhibitions and concerts that raise funds for charitable causes.
Over a khichdi meal, I told Dr Batra that readers would laugh at me if I wrote a book about health because one simply needs to look at me to realise that everything about me is the exact opposite-my weight, my drinking, my cigar smoking ... the list is endless. I am probably one of the unhealthiest people on the planet!
We spend money on 'health fads, which are often unnecessary and sometimes even dangerous. I therefore thought if I could pen down the thirteen most important things for good health that often get overlooked, it could motivate people to live happier and healthier lives.
Having known that Ashwin was writing the 13 Steps series, I felt that good health was missing from his life and writings. If by writing this book, he could pick up a few health tips, we would have a healthier ace writer around for a longer time. As Ashley Montagu said, "The idea is to die young as late as possible!'
