Book Description
Foreword
The 126 year old Oriental Research Institute (ORI), University of Mysore is well known for preservation and publication of rare Sanskrit manuscripts under the category 'Oriental Research Institute Series'. The present work 'Anjaneya satakam' is critically edited by Dr. T.V.Sathyanarayana an eminent Sanskritist and Deputy Director (rtd.) of the institute, bears the serial number 211 among the publication series of this institute. Anjaneya-satakam is a devotional century-poem authored by a shrewd politician cum versatile poet Venkamatya of erstwhile Mysore. The institute has already published six other works of the same author Venkamatya. They are Vira raghava-vyayoga, Laksmi-swayamvara-samavakara, Sitakalyana-vithi, Rukmini-madhavanka, Kukṣimbhara-bhaikṣava-prahasanam, Kamavilasa bhana, Urvasi-sarvabhauma-ihamrga. About the manuscript of Anjaneya-satakam.

Unfortunately the manuscript of Anjaneya śatakam (P-3080) preserved in ORI, Mysore is containing only 95 verses instead of one hundred We could not procure the copies of this manuscript with complete text of 100 verses from any other research institutes for collating purpose. Considering the poetic values of Anjaneya-satakam, it is decided to publish the work as it is, with a hope of procuring the complete text in future. Hence, the editorial task of Dr.T.V.Sathyanarayana is mainly based on a single palm-leaf manuscript measuring about 31 x 6 c.m. bearing the number P-3080, written in Telugu script. The beginning verse is composed in Sardulavikriditam and the remaining 94 in Sragdhara-vrtta.

There is a lucid Sanskrit commentary called 'praudha-vinodini' authored by Nṛsimha who flourished in the court of Kalale Nanjaraja. He was also a contemporary of Venkamatya. As documented in the literary sources, Nrsimha was the son of a profound scholar and a gifted poet Sivarama who composed Nanjaraja-yaso-bhusanam' a work of high order in the field of Sanskrit poetics. Nrsimha respectfully remembers his teacher Yogananda-yati' in the statement 'yogananda-yatindraya sandraya gurave namah.'
