Book Description
Introduction

What can be seen is called a scene and a sequence of scenes, arranged to narrate an idea or a story is called a screenplay. In English, two words are used for it-'screenplay' and 'scenario'. Although both seem alike, there is a minor difference. In a screenplay, the techniques of 'cut' or 'dissolve' etc. are also written as directions, which are helpful to the director. The sets and locations are also mentioned along with the time of action before the scene.

The technical details are required only to pictures the screenplay.

Otherwise these details are unnecessary obstructions while reading.

In literature, the screenplay is a completely independent form now and should be read without any hindrance, like the flow of a novel.

The first example that comes to mind is Elia Kazan's screenplay America which was written in this form, published and then made into a film later.

Aandhi and Hu Tu, both were written in the form of screenplays originally. Later the novels were written, one by Kamleshwar as Kali Aandhi in Hindi and the other as a play by myself, in Urdu. But the translations have come from the original Urdu scripts as per the film.

At one time Sun joy Shekhar, a friend and colleague, had done a version of Aandhi.

But later when Meghna was translating Hu Tu, she also revised Aandhi and made a new version of Aandhi, and included the songs too.

My gratitude to both of them.

And many thanks to Saba Bashir for regular revision of both the scripts and adding the blurb for the book.

Thanks to Maithili ji for designing the attractive book cover and Kadambari for composing the chapters.

Though last but forever, Kapish for taking up this form for publication.
