Preface

Dr. Jagat Chettri, widely known as 'Jagat Sir', was known to me not as my teacher in the formal sense but he was known to me through his writings, his active participation in Nepali Bhasa Movement and through his involvement in various social activities. When I was entrusted with the responsible task of writing a monograph on him by Sahitya Akademi. New Delhi, under Makers of Indian Literature Series, I had a feeling that I would be able to complete this monograph without much difficulties as I had gone through some of his writings in the past. But when I started to write then I felt myself swimming in an ocean. It was not so easy to evaluate a person like Dr. Jagat Chettri who had kept himself busy throughout his life in multifarious activities right from literature to a petty problem of a neighbor.
