Book Description
About The Book

This book brings out the ancient wisdom culled out of the Veda and Upanishads. The Vedantic Views and Ways of Mind Control presented here is the surest path that leads to happiness and success in life. The most significant aspect of this book is that it is a mystic experience of the author. A number of simple techniques of achieving happiness and success are given in this book.
The present work is an intensive study of the ancient scriptures as well as, the modem scientific and technological developments. It is almost a divine prodding and many mystic experiences have been responsible for this work. Excerpts from Bhagavad Gita, Brahma Sutra, Ashtaavakra Samhita, Shankara Bhaashya, Madhwacharyas Commentaries, Rig Veda Samhita, Sama Veda and Atharva Veda, Vishnu Puranam, almost sixty Upanishads, Mahaveera and Gautama Buddha and a host of modern works like that of Fitjof Capra's Turning Point, and Tao of Physics have been referred to in this work. Maharishi Mahesh Yogi is quoted at length from his books Heaven on Earth and the Vision of Total Knowledge. His books: Heaven on Earth and Wholeness on the Move are significant works -a scientific rendering of 'Rk Veda'.
This book also includes reference to modem theories concerning origin of the universe, evolution of life, and development of the human species, the brain, and the human behaviour. It is by divine intuition that this work has been made possible. Vedanta The Knowledge Supreme is another Title by the same Author.

Preface

Mind is the thing! Mind is the zing thing! It has the amazing creative power and it is the Mind that makes man a 'human' leading him to the 'Divine. It is the discerning and discriminating Mind that makes Man so special and separate from other animals. It is also the Mind that makes or mars our life. All our problems are due to our Mind and it is absolutely essential to know about the nature of our Mind and its behaviour. Unless we control its unruly behaviour, it is sure to land us in trouble. It is also essential to harness the enormous creative power that rests with the Mind and harness the potential in us. There are very simple techniques that help us in this endeavour.
This book: "MANONIYANTRAN" "The Vedantic Views and Ways of Mind Control" is a treatise on Mind and gives spiritual techniques of controlling Mind and harnessing its powers for a happy, successful, and peaceful life. It ensures both materialistic prosperity and spiritual progress. It is in the Vedic tradition and implores Upanishadic doctrines to gain not only happiness in worldly life but also attain to great spiritual height that ensures liberation from bondage of Sansar, the mundane world.
By the way, one may ask: why the control of the Mind? Why "Manoniyantran? The aim of life is happiness and happiness is a state of Mind. It is the Mind that gives the impression of happiness or unhappiness; and, it is the Mind that normally controls our life and activity and we suffer due to our sheer ignorance and our inability to control our thoughts. Actually, it is the Intellect, 'Buddhi' that has got the discriminative power and it should guide the Mind and enable it to keep us happy and successful through the power of discrimination. This 'Buddhi' is the Intellect that gets its power of discrimination, the 'light' or Knowledge from the soul or the 'spirit within' In the absence of this reflected light of the Soul, the 'Atman', the Mind goes on rampage, dwells on anything and everything that the senses dwell upon, and mistakes all illusory, or the 'make-believe', or the magical objects of the world as real and get us into trouble. In the absence of this intellect's guidance or discriminative power, we fail to 'see things as they are and get everything wrong in our understanding. This ignorance governs our lives until and unless we realise the 'Reality' of this world.
Who will guide us in this endeavour of 'seeing things as they are' and knowing the 'Reality' of this world? Who will lead us from 'Asat' to 'Sat', from 'Ignorance' to 'Knowledge? If we look back to our cultural and spiritual heritage in the Ancient Scriptures like the Veda and Upanishads, the Brahma Sutra, and the Bhagavad Gita, we realize how our forefathers lived a life of contentment, happiness, peace, and prosperity and held the 'spiritual' values in high esteem.

Introduction

Our Mind is our world. Each one of us think and act as per the dictates of our Mind and get into problems due to the dualities and complexities of the world. We get confused and perplexed when we face problems that we cannot understand. We often forget that Man is made up of not only matter (body, mind, and intellect), but also spirit (Soul, the 'Atman'), and, more often, it is spirituality that shows the way in times of confusion and doubt. Bhagavad-Gita is a is a compendium of f guidelines to to sensible way of living and gives the techniques of Mind control- 'Manoniyantran'. It shows the way out of this confusion of 'to be or not to be'. The principles enunciated in the Gita are culled out of the Veda and the Upanishads.
A simple guide to life would greatly help in times of problems, confusion or distress; and, it is true that not all can take to Veda, Upanishads, Brahma Sutra and the Bhagavad-Gita. Hence, the much awaited I book is is here. This is a small book, but makes a slow reading. Sometimes, it may seem difficult to understand the 'mantra', the Samskrut verses, and their meaning; it requires much patience and concentration. The English equivalents are also difficult to understand. Hence a glossary of Samskrut terms is given for a quick reference.
It is all about the endless quest'. Not only it is about the problems of life but it is also about 'death and after', it is about emancipation, liberation from bondage or 'Mukti'. It is about freedom, liberation, and eternal bliss and happiness. It is about the goal of life. It is about the meaning of life. It is about the proper understanding oneself to face fto life comes of the problems of life as also to equip e as it comes. It is about experience of life in its full. It is about salvation, or 'mukti', i.e., the purification of the mind. 'Moksha' is burning of all desires of impure mind and to 'dwell in Him', the Lord, and attaining to the Supreme Bliss. This does not mean abandoning the great opportunity given to man to live and enjoy on this earth, of which even the Devas are are jealous. way, it is the Vedantic way of life, not of abandonment, but of fulfillment!
Spirituality is not divorced to worldly life nor is it opposed to materialistic prosperity as is often mistaken. It is the only sensible and sane way of living. It does not advocate rejection; on the contrary it implores acceptance. But, there is the appropriate time when Man should take to the 'sat-nyas' (the true path), the sensible way of living and leave the path of 'illusion' (Maya) and delusion. There is no doubt that this life is for enjoyment. Enjoy life and enjoy it so well that you will not hanker after it any more, taking repeated births. Enjoy your life so well that you feel happy and contented. Enjoy your life so well that it leaves no desires for further fulfillment in the next birth. Live so well, as a model for others to emulate!
