It is well-known to men of light and learning all the world over that Vedanta is the finest flower of Indian thought.
It is esteemed as the lion among our philosophical systems (darshanas) whose roaring has silenced the howlings and barkings of the conclusions of all other systems of philosophy. It is based upon the experience aided by reasonings of Rishis of Bharata Desha. The scriptual authority for the Vedanta system is considered as threefold -the Upanishad, the Brahma Sutra and the Bhagavadgita. The Upanishad here rightly tops the list because the Brahma Sutra is merely a reasoned discourse on important Upanishadic texts and Bhagavadgita referring to the above two is considered as the nectar-essence of the Upanishads.
The Upanishad is not only an Indian scripture par-excellence, but is also recognized as a world-scripture - a scripture appealing to the lovers of religion and truth in all races and at all times. This universal scripture has a greater compassion on all suffering souls than thousands of mothers and is also a teacher par excellence. As a mother offers to her crying children a variety of edibles like grapes and dates and mangoes and bananas and somehow brings consolation and peace to them so also the Upanishad brings wisdom and peace to us by various methods - by giving us various examples and counter-examples and figures and images and citing stories.

The texts of Upanishads have been translated and interpreted in a variety of ways by scholars of different schools such as advaita, dvaita and visistadvaita. Of these the translations of Upanishads from the advaita standpoint are available in large numbers while those from visistadvaita standpoint are very few.
This excellent translation of important Upanishads by the erudite and experienced teacher Dr. N. S. Anantha Rangachar, fulfills this long-felt need in a commedable way. Dr. N. S. Anantha Rangachar is a highly cultured person endowed with "Sweetness and Light". He is well-known to the reading-world as an author of numerous works on philosophy and religion (especially Visistadvaita philosophy and Srivaishnava religion) and devotional lyrics of Alwars and Acharyas in English and Kannada languages.
