The Vedic scriptures explain that a person who wants to engage in devotional service to the Supreme Lord Sri Krsna, with the aim of becoming His eternal servant, must take shelter of a bona fide spiritual master. Under the guidance of such a guru, one must hear and read about spiritual topics, such as those described in Srimad Bhagavad-gita, Srimad-Bhagavatam, Sri Caitanya-caritamrta and other scriptures. This practice is beneficial for progress on the path of loving devotion to Krsna.
The young, yet interested, audience often finds these literatures difficult to read and understand. The subject matter is deep and the language complex. I am therefore delighted that we are presenting Sri Caitanya-lila for Children. The contents of this compilation have been taken from Sri Caitanya-bhagavata by Sri Vrndavana dasa Thakura, Sri Caitanya-caritamrta by Srila Krsnadasa Kaviraja Gosvami, and from some of my own commentaries on these pastimes.
This delightful and charming journey through the life and teachings of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu is presented in a very simple manner. I hope that by making this important book available to young readers, Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, Sri Nityananda Prabhu and all Their associates will be pleased.
Introduction
In every millennium, for all of time, the Supreme Lord Sri Krsna appears in each of the unlimited universes.
In this present age of Kali, Sri Krsna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, appeared in this world as Sri Gauranga Mahaprabhu. He descended as the son of Jagannatha Misra and Saci-devi in Navadvipa, adorned with the moods and luster of Srimati Radharani. His unlimited friends, servants, family members and beloveds descended along with Him to join Him in His unique pastime in which His generosity has no limit and His transcendental sweetness abounds.
In His previous incarnations He killed the demons with mighty weapons, but as Lord Gauranga, He conquered everyone with His divine love. In this incarnation, His weapons were His own sweet names.
Taking the role of a devotee, He taught the world the principles of religion by following and practicing them Himself. He also distributed the very rare jewel of loving service to Sri Radha-Krsna to all humans, animals, trees and creepers. Yet, he freely gave this treasure to everyone and immersed the universe in of Srimati Saci-devi, be transcendentally situated in the innermost chambers of your heart.
