Book Description
About the Book
Vedanta texts have been well known for their richness in fundamental scientific and technological principles with strong potential for research and development today. In fact, much of ancient India's remarkable achieve-ments in science and technology can be credited to Vedantic texts. This volume-proceedings of the 22 International Congress of Vedanta held during 27-30 December 2015 at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi features 53 scholarly articles from a wide variety of areas of study. The 22 Vedanta was a confluence of scholars from various disciplines and the papers in this volume bear the imprint of an intense discussion that is usually expected from a good Vedanta seminar. Though the majority of the papers are in English, a few are in Sanskrit and Hindi as well. The papers are grouped under Vedanta Studies, Vedanta and Philosophy, Vedanta and Science, Vedanta and Culture, Applied Vedanta, and Digital Access and Search of Sanskrit Texts. This multidimensional approach extends the core scientific ideas of Vedanta to social, cultural, aesthetic and religious aspects of studies, creating a wide spectrum of intellectual discourse and trying to discover fundamental scientific and tech-nological aspects of Vedanta studies. Being a worthwhile addition to Vedanta studies, this volume should invoke keen interest among all those who are deeply into it, be a student, a researcher or a common reader.

Preface
I BEGIN this preface with an unconditional apology to the Vedanta community and to the authors of the selected papers featuring in this volume. The four-year delay in publishing the proceedings of the 22nd Vedanta was due to many reasons which could have been avoidable with some more effort from my side. The Twenty Second International Congress of Vedanta (22nd Vedanta) was organized at the JNU Convention Centre during 27-30 December 2015 by Special Center for Sanskrit Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi; Institute of Advanced Sciences, Dartmouth, USA and Center for Indic Studies, University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, USA. The International Congress of Vedanta which is currently located in the Center of Indic Studies, University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth was founded in 1986 by Prof. S.S. Rama Rao Pappu at the Department of Philosophy at Miami University, Ohio. For over two decades, International Congress of Vedanta has seen a living confluence of scholars from Sanskrit, Indian culture and philosophy, religion and other related disciplines. The focus of the 22nd Vedanta was "Science and Technology" from a wide spectrum of ancillary disciplines which could be loosely brought under the rubric of "Science and Technology". The response was huge. Out of more than 150 full papers uploaded on the conference website http://sanskrit.jnu.ac.in/conf/22vedanta/index.jsp, reviewers examined all of them and selected 53 papers for presentation and publication in the proceedings.
