On the red field is the steadily outlined pattern of the kalga buti attached to the curling stem. This is done in a single black colour. The buti has been treated as another floral motif and not as an independent design. The border pattern takes up a major part of the sheet and is intended to decorate the edge of the bed spread. Here, it makes a strong memorable statement with its different sized bands of various designs. The floral vine pattern or the 'bel' displayed in black on the widest white band is a Mughal influence. The other narrower bands have architectural or geometric designs. Most of the designs on the bands are in black and white but some are in bold and dark lines and others in thin delicate ones. There is variation in thickness of lines if not of colour. Yet, in the middle of this melee of designs in the border, a bold, red band cuts across, making its conspicuous presence felt.
