Seated in a posture of maharajalilasana, Ganesha is depicted as prescribed in the shilpa shastra. The narrow eyes look at the viewer with genteel. The trunk hangs down and suddenly turns towards the left of partake the modaka held in the right hand. The back two hands hold the ankusha and the pasa. The ankusha is used by Ganesha to prod his devotees out of their inertia, urging them on to spiritual quest. The noose is used to restrain passion and curb the ego. The lower left hand is held in abhaya mudra, assuring his devotees not to fear. His right tusk is broken; Ganesha having used it to fling at the moon who dared to laugh when Ganesha's belly tore open after consuming excess modakas.
