Numerous boats of various kinds, hoisting of the sky high masts, the tumult of the waves of the river, the force of the wind, the rush of the clouds - all these elements go together in creating a wonderful picture such as this.

Skillfully crafted boats carry noblemen and courtiers; the central boat, which stands out from the rest by its rich tents, carries the king who is seated in a kneeling position. Those courtiers in his boat attend on him with folded hands. Some in the foreground seem to be in the fear of the angry river - tension portrayed well by their expressions and their gestures. The king on the other hand is unaffected, holding parleys with the men. The figures, other than the king are conspicuous by the absence of brocade clothes and rich jewelry connected with imperial staff nobles. This has helped in giving them a more human appearance.

In the background there are hills and a temple structure which seems the destination of the people aboard the boats, despite the fury of the river in flood. A courtier also carries a 'trishula', a weapon of Lord Shiva, signifying it is a Shaivite temple they are heading for.

The furious river, the angry sky are painted in similar colors and would have merged if it wasn't for the hillock. The clothes of men gave the painter an opportunity to use various colors. He easily handles a dense composition teaming with figures yet skillfully constructed.
