This is obviously a ritualistic picture, accompanied by a yantra, an aid to meditation. Here Siva lies inactive, in torpor and above him sits his Sakti, another aspect of his energy personified as a female form. On the lotus seat, a symbol of divinity, the goddess sits cross legged, apparently in her aggressive form. Behind her beautiful crown is a halo in sunshine yellow colour. In her four hands, she holds a bow, arrow, sickle, and a rosary. Beneath this picture is the holy Sri Yantra, the most fascinating of all yantras. The configuration of the Sri Yantra produces a pattern of forty-three triangles. This structure is enclosed by two concentric lotus circles of eight and sixteen petals each enclosed within a square ground plan. On either side of the Sri yantra are faces of both gods and goddesses. The empty space of the upper part is filled with designs made of colourful lines, and a small circular pattern giving the look of a strings of beads. The lines have been so used to make the image acquire an intensity, a sexual energy, giving it a compulsive power.
