36" Large Wooden Dancing Goddess Lakshmi

$1012
Includes any tariffs and taxes

A dynamic image of Devi Lakshmi. Dynamic because of the stance of Her body, which is as if caught in the midst of a flowing dance routine. One foot raised in the air, the hip jutting out laterally. Sister of Sarasvati, Lakshmi strongly resembles Her more musical sibling in this monotone wood-carved composition.

A neatly curved archway frames the tall, divine dancing figure. She is the chaturbhujadharini, of which the posterior ones wield a lotus bud each. In fact, these lotus buds in Her hands are how we know it is Her. Otherwise, both in terms of stance and the vahana at Her feet - the gracious peacock - She bears a strong resemblance to Sarasvati.

Carved from solid, monotone wood, this Lakshmi murti accommodates a wealth of detail. Details such as the adornment on Her body and the lotus petal engravings on Her halo must have taken a great deal of skill to introduce into wood.

An Ode to Abundance and Grace: The Divine Dancer

This magnificent, large wooden sculpture captures the essence of the Goddess Lakshmi in a moment of divine dance. Carved from rich, dark wood, the figure exudes a sense of opulence and serenity, a testament to the skill of the artisan who brought her to life. The intricate details of her adornments, from the delicate jewelry to the flowing garments, speak of her role as the bestower of wealth, prosperity, and good fortune. Her pose, dynamic yet graceful, suggests the ebb and flow of cosmic energies, mirroring the abundant blessings she bestows upon the world. The Goddess Lakshmi, revered as the Hindu deity of wealth, fortune, power, beauty, and prosperity, is often depicted seated or standing. However, this portrayal as a dancing figure adds a vibrant dimension to her iconography, suggesting a more active and joyous manifestation of her benevolent power. In Hindu mythology, Lakshmi is associated with the lotus flower, a symbol of purity and spiritual awakening, and often seen riding a majestic swan or peacock, both creatures representing grace and beauty. This sculpture pays homage to these rich traditions, with subtle yet powerful representations that resonate with ancient lore. The swirling patterns and decorative borders frame the goddess, enhancing her divine presence and inviting contemplation.

Symbolism and Sacredness

The presence of the peacock beneath the dancing goddess is particularly significant. The peacock, with its iridescent plumage and captivating dance, is often seen as a symbol of royalty, beauty, and auspiciousness in Indian culture. It is also associated with Lord Krishna, who famously wears a peacock feather in his crown. The inclusion of this majestic bird suggests a connection to divine power and protection, further enhancing the auspicious aura of the sculpture. The intricate carving of the peacock, with its detailed feathers and alert posture, complements the fluidity of the goddess's form, creating a harmonious composition that is both visually striking and spiritually evocative. This piece is not merely an object of art; it is a conduit for divine blessings, intended to bring prosperity, harmony, and joy to any space it graces. This impressive wooden carving is more than just a decorative item; it is an embodiment of spiritual aspirations and cultural heritage. Its substantial size makes it a focal point, drawing the eye and inspiring awe. The natural warmth and texture of the wood lend an organic beauty to the divine form, grounding the celestial power in earthly material. Whether placed in a meditation room, a living space, or an entryway, this sculpture serves as a constant reminder of the abundance that surrounds us and the grace that guides us. It is a piece that will be cherished for generations, a timeless tribute to the enduring power and beauty of the Goddess Lakshmi.
