Lord Bhaisajyaguru, known as the esteemed "Master of Healing," draws inspiration from the teachings of Gautama, the historical Buddha. Gautama recognized Dharma as the ultimate remedy for human suffering, making this divine portrayal a source of comfort and direction during times of illness.

In the depiction, Bhaisajyaguru sits clad in the traditional three robes of a Buddhist monk. His left hand cradles a jar of healing nectar which is said to be in calming lapis color, while his right hand rests gently on his right knee, delicately holding the Aruna fruit or Myrobalan stem between thumb and forefinger. This representation embodies the essence of healing and solace.

Embodiment of Healing and Compassion

This exquisite brass sculpture captures the serene presence of the Medicine Buddha, Bhaisajyaguru, a revered figure in Mahayana Buddhism. Known as the "King of Lapis Lazuli Light," he is invoked for healing physical and mental suffering, dispelling ignorance, and offering liberation from the cycle of rebirth. In this meticulously crafted representation, the Buddha is depicted seated in a meditative posture, radiating an aura of profound peace and boundless compassion. His right hand rests upon his knee in the gesture of *varada mudra*, symbolizing the bestowal of boons and blessings. He holds a stem of the *Artemisia* plant, also known as the "King of Medicines," a potent symbol of his healing powers. His left hand, cradling an alms bowl filled with the nectar of immortality, signifies his ability to grant longevity and freedom from disease. The intricate detailing of his monastic robes, adorned with delicate patterns, speaks to the skillful craftsmanship that brings this sacred image to life. ––––––––––

A Patron of Well-being

The Medicine Buddha is more than just a symbol of healing; he is a beacon of hope for all beings struggling with illness, pain, and mental anguish. According to Buddhist scriptures, the Medicine Buddha once made twelve great vows to aid all sentient beings, vowing to heal the sick, relieve suffering, and guide those who are lost. He is particularly associated with the eradication of the three poisons: greed, hatred, and ignorance, which are considered the root causes of all suffering. In Tibetan Buddhism, he is often depicted as part of the "Buddha Family," representing the ultimate wisdom that is free from illusion and delusion. His presence is believed to purify negative karma and lead devotees towards enlightenment. ––––––––––
