Benaras, the traditional weaving center, is known for its distinctive style and design, as proven hereby. This rich, peacock blue saree looks royal just by the color of it. Delicate floral design is created on the entire field by the use of warp and weft threads of purple and blue colors that blend so well with each other. The combination is not stark; adding a touch of sophistication. The border has dense zari work in a stylized continuous vine pattern. On the inner edge of the border, as well as the pallav, is a narrow fringe-like pattern that looks like a string of upright leaves. This is called a jhalar. The pallav has an elaborate and contemporary theme with intense zari work. Here two broad bands of floral vines interspersed with abstract patterns try to fuse the traditional with the contemporary, and indeed succeed. There is a fine balance and subtle harmony between the ground, border and the pallav.

The color and the intense zari work makes the saree suitable for weddings or other auspicious occasions. It would also be best for a dressy evening affair, where you want to stand out in the crowd.
