Whether Astrology a Science is the question we have been asking from time to time. If Science is simply a revelation of truth, Astrology definitely comes under the gambit of Science But modern Science or Scientific temper needs methodology and asks how we have arrived at the conclusions. Though many theories are put forth only few like Mars within theory can explain the results in Astrology conclusively. But the basic assumptions there upon yet need proofs other than circumstantial evidences to cope with in the parameters of modern Science. This leads to the assumption that Astrology as such can not be proved under the modern Scientific temper only.
But that does not mean Astrology is not a Science but the modes of arriving at the results that are to be substantiated by research. If we agree to the reality that Astrology is not fatalism but the law of probability based upon human characters as depicted by planets, Astrology can come up-to the parameters of modern Science also. For this, whatever research we do, should be subjective but not meant for negating or glorifying Astrology. That is why we should try to develop a proper percept about it. That is what my book intends to do.
Where exactly the present day Astrology stands is yet another controversy we have to counter. To call it Vedic may be the misinterpretation of facts. Whatever classics we have foday can not be called Vedic though they are greatly influenced by Vedic thoughts. The classics, we have, are composed or compiled only after Puranic period (100 BC). It is a misfortune to Indian Astrology that we could not avail scriptures in between Vedic and Puranic periods. But the revisit to Vedic Astrology can be done from the present day's Astrological thinking. There are many clues regarding this in Vedas and its contemporary epics. Based on those clues, to regain Vedic concept of Astrology is my vision and mission.
This vision has given me the idea that Astrology may not be a complete predictive Science, but definitely a corrective Science. Planets indicate human characters. We have to balance the influences upon us towards perfection. Prediction of events is based on these facts, making it only secondary.
Saying this much, one many tend to ask why I am calling this,
Vedic Astrology. Though I mainly use a base of neo Indian scriptures
of Parashara school, I have deliberately tried to go into Vedic roots.
I have clearly given preference to predict human characters and reasons behind it, than events. This I think is the very essence of Vedic thoughts.
In this book I have tried to give a practical approach to prediction.
We have so many good books on Astrology, but a scientific compilation and evolution of a model text book is a rarity. My book is intended to fill this void to a certain extent. I have translated this book from my original in Kannada language titled Prayogika Phala Jothisha. Here I have not touched many chapters viz. Dasha, Transit, Prasna, Mundane, Astaka Varga etc., and also a holistic integrated approach. I intend to write a book by combining Jaimini, Thajaka and Parashari schools, which though look dissimilar, originated from a single school.
