Preface
Nearly a decade has elapsed since this collection of stories in Kannada was published. Word came from Gurudeva that it should be thoroughly revised. It was done accordingly by Shri Sraddhananda Swamiji, providing the background of the story and simplifying the text for the benefit of young readers. The number too was increased to 366, so as to extend the reading or telling over a full year. The collection covers a whole range of philosophical stories, parables and anecdotes, Some stories have been culled from Gurudeva's 'Bhagavat-chintana', too. And so, in completely renewed form, the collection has emerged under a new title, viz. Kathamruta. Translation in true sense is a transcreation. Only he who has assimilated the essence that is there in the original can render it into another language. That is what precisely Prof. G.B.Sajjan has done. He attached the top most priority to this task of rendering this book into English, though his health needed immediate attention. That is Prof. Sajjan and that speaks volumes of his dedication, devotion and focus on the perfection in all that he does. We remain ever grateful to the learned professor G.B.Sajjan for all that he has done. The person who prefers to remain ever in the background and yet does the work silently unknown and unseen is Shri Tejomayananda swamiji. But for his diligent and silent work the present book would not have seen the light of the day. We are beholden to Tejomayananda swamiji. Our heartful thanks are due to Shri Shivadev swamiji who undertook the entire responsibility of bringing out the book in the present form and design. We accknowledge his ceaseless efforts. Shri Yatishwarananda swamiji handled every matter related to the press pretty efficiently. The Foundation gratefully acknowledges his services. We aknowledge the kind help given by Shri Shivananda saranaru and M.V. Bagi in bringing out the book. We earnestly hope the readers will reap true joy in reading this book and render their life both meaningful and beautiful.
About The Author
Shri Siddheshwar Swamiji is an exemplary renunciate who lives, breathes and professes a world-view of universalism and humanism. Versed in the scriptural literature of all the major religions of the world, the philosophy he preaches is non-denominational, non-sectarian, but an eclectic synthesis of the best of the East and the West. He has a postgraduate degree in philosophy, alright, but saintly souls, such as he, have no need of degrees. Early in his life, an unknown force directed his steps towards a spiritualist goal, and guided him towards the late Vedanta Kesari' Mallikarjuna Swamiji as his guru. He wears no ochre-robes, but is white-clad, which only shows he is a renunciate in every fibre of his being, though not visible as such to the world's view.
