Hanuman the epitome of selfless service is shown here in a benevolent posture with his famous mace resting on the ground facing downwards, though he was well capable of turning it into a bloody weapon against the enemies of his Lord, the Great Rama. His exploits have been narrated in the epic Ramayana, where his exploits have enthralled generations since ancient times. Though he has an overall peaceful composure, his muscular physique shines out.
His right hand is in the gesture of boon-granting, inscribed with the holy symbol AUM. Indeed it is believed that Hanuman extricates one from the deepest of troubles when worshipped with a true heart. That he is bearded and has a calm, compassionate look on his face is also a reflection on his mature and kindly disposition.
