The artist Gopal Kumawat has proved time and again that colour is secondary to line. Executed with black ink on white paper, draughtsmanship shows its superiority. This drawing not only reveals the beauty of the women but also the truth that dance and music can lend one to trance or abandon. Women are playing the cymbals, trumpet and drums and one of them is dancing to the music with complete abandon. In every figure, the linear rhythms of their attire, their ornaments and the musical instruments inspire awe. Soft bodies of these women, with their sinuous, graceful curves are a result of simple lines. There are concaves and convexes, balance and harmony and fluidity of line. Nowhere does the artists hand waver or overlap. Delicate faces, sharp features, fragile limbs, make them look fascinating. The flowing ghagras and odhinis not only occupy pictorial space but provide for the uninterrupted flow of continuous line.
