Mughal paintings present the splendor of the rainbow and the subtlety of the butterfly's wings. Innovations were derived partly from indigenous contemporary trends and partly from Persian paintings in the early Mughal period and European paintings in the later Mughal period.

This painting of a barouche is an example of exquisite workmanship, lively drawing and a harmonious jewel-like palette. This four-wheeled carriage drawn by two finest steeds has a seat outside for the driver and facing seats inside for a couple. The representation of the horse is in close affinity with it's idealized drawing in Persian painting but that is where the similarity ends. They have elongated necks, bony muzzles and sturdy, thin legs. They have a rich saddle and their necks are decorated with elegant jewelry. The horse partially concealed is in an unusual color owing to the overenthusiasm of the painter in his play with brilliant colors. The carriage is made of light wood precariously balanced on delicate four wheels. It is designed for comfort and elegance and makes a pretty picture too. Maximum attention and detail has been provided to the animals and the inanimate cart treated as such.

Draughtsmanship is commendable with thin, strong lines unwavering. The colors used are brilliant and stand even brighter against a light background. The foreground has the shadows of the horse's hooves and the carriage wheels. To maintain the rich feel of the painting, the picture has been enclosed in a thin border in Prussian blue with a floral vine in gold.
