Panini is the name of a famous Sanskrit grammarian and revered scholar of the 6th century BCE. In the 19th century, he was labeled as the “Father of Linguistics” by European scholars. Panini is especially known for his text Ashtadhyayi which is a Sanskrit treatise on grammar written between the 6th and 5th century BCE.
It consists of 3,996 verses on linguistics, syntax, and semantics that are organized into eight chapters. These eight chapters are further subdivided into four sections or Padas. His work greatly influenced many scholars from different religions such as Buddhism to write commentaries on it.
